Look what I did today...

For those who know me, I am die hard for trying new techniques to further my skills and this was one of those projects. I purchased "Faux Applique" by Helen Stubbings the other day and just had to try her technique. Using colored pencils and some basic embroidery skills you have a wonderful, fast and simple quilt that simulates the look of applique. I must admit, I wasn't too sure of the color pencil thing but I actually like it! I see some of my personal quilts in my future with this technique. I can see using this technique for art quilts easily.

From Sweatshirt to Magic!!

It rained pretty much all day and seemed to get heavier as the day went on which made it cold and chilly. A perfect day to create and be creative.

OK, here is my project for this weekend. Our guild made sweatshirt jackets. Using a stitch and turn method I creative this jacket. It was simple, easy and surprisingly a heavy warm jacket. I am very impressed.

Enjoy!

A Bag for All Occasions

Would you like to see my quilted bag I created sometime ago? I carry it with me everywhere and get ask time and time again where did I get it. I made it of course! A design by Frieda Anderson, from her book Fun, Fast Fusies, I wanted to learn how to fuse and this was the end result. I used some of my hand dyed fabrics. The back was embroidered with various stitches, with hand dyed cotton. It holds my books, my project(s) I am working on, as well as my Ott-lite or anything else I shove in there. It's pretty handy and I didn't realize I would use it as often as I do. I love it, thanks Frieda for the design! I love this technique too!

Have you been creative today? Signing off T

Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to Kaila London! This is a new venture for me and I am excited to be here and I hope those who follow me will be too.

I am a quilter among a list of other things I love to do. I created this blog to show items I like to create, as well as work on. My hope is to encourage those who are interested, the sky is the limit to your creativity.

When I started quilting, I took as many classes possible, learned the correct way, and eventually found that traditional quilting was wonderful, but would think to myself "Those darn points are working my nerves!" Needless to say I have tons of quilts that I made that are traditional until I realized I could do what I wanted (staying within a top, batting, and backing sandwich guideline) I didn't care if my points weren't straight! Thus the world of non-traditional contemporary or whatever else you want to call it quilting.

.....and the rest is history! So I encourage you too, to do what you want as long as the end results are the same, a quilt, an art quilt, a bed quilt, or whatever quilt project! LOL

One thing I have realized, either you are traditional or your not! Just do you!

Happy quilting and creativity! T
